Paris, Éditions du Seuil, 1971; in-8 (141 x 206 mm), 192 pp., broché. Collection « Tel Quel », dirigée par Philippe Sollers. Roland Barthes est un critique et sémiologue, né à Cherbourg, en 1915 et mort à Paris, en 1980. Il fut un des grands inventeurs du structuralisme, spécialisé dans la sémiotique française. Il collabora à "Esprit", "Combat", les "Lettres nouvelles" ainsi qu'à la Collection « Tel Quel ». Il travailla à l'Ecole pratique des Hautes Études et occupe une chaire au Collège de France. Il a écrit également un grand texte sur la photographie « la Chambre claire ».
