Dust jacket not price clipped or marked or torn or creased with minor traces of storage. 208pp. The story of the miner's son who follwed his father down the mine near Wigan, Lancashire before becoming a union officer and then a councillor for Manchester. He worked tirelessly for the city, was instrumental in the introduction of the Clean Air Act and ultimately became Lord Mayor and then Council Leader.
