Description
Teils arabisch. Einband leicht berieben. - The overwhelming source of wealth in pre-industrial economy is agriculture : Egypt's agrarian wealth was legendary. Yet the means by which the successive rulers of Islamic Egypt sought to control that wealth have been illunderstood. This study is a detailed examination of those means - namely, the System of agrarian administration. Fortunately, from the historian's perspective, the fundaments of a single System of agrarian administration prevailed in Egypt, as this study will establish, for nearly a millenium and possibly even longer. Therefore, an understanding of that System provides a unified context in which to study the history of Egypt from shortly following the Arab conquest into the Ottoman period.
