8vo., free endpapers mildly browned; original green cloth, upper board blocked in blind, gilt back, a very good, bright, clean copy in price-clipped dustwrapper. Frazer's masterwork first appeared in two volumes in 1890, with a second edition in three volumes in 1900. The abridged edition first appeared in 1922. 'While the bulk of the book has been greatly reduced, I have endeavoured to retain its leading principles, together with an amount of evidence sufficient to illustrate them clearly' (Author's Preface).
