VG. ** "An epic tale of adventure": la Canadian Artic Expedition, che avrebbe dovuto essere la "grandest and most elaborate Artic Expedition in the history" si trasformò in tragedia. La nave Karluk bloccata dai ghiacci, poi stritolata e affondata, i superstiti (ventiquattro uomini, una giovane eschimese con due sorelline, diciannove cani e il gatto della nave) restano soli sul ghiaccio. Nove mesi più tardi una piccola baleniera salverà dodici sopravvissuti.
