First edition. With twelve half-tone plates and four illustrations within the text. The illustrations are by such noteworthy artists as Clare Leighton, Eric Ravilious, James McBey, John Sargent, Augustus John, and others. Folio, in the original maroon cloth, the spine lettered in gilt. [vi], 234pp. A very good copy, internally fine with the text being largely unopened, mellowing to the prelims only, the cloth bright and unfaded, the binding sound and firm, the lower corners bumped and little age to the tips and edges.
