dal testo introduttivo:
The present book acquaints the reader with the manifold interests
of Rumanian painters today as reflected in their works on show at
the 1964 Annual Exhibition.
Enthusiasm, confidence in life and art, a constant endeavour to
enhance the expressiveness and emotional power of the artistic lan-
guage, an unmistakable mark of originality of a number of painters, are
only some of the characteristic features of contemporary productions
in this field.
The history of Rumanian culture has never before recorded such
creative impulse generated by the impetuous development of present-day
Rumania.
Eager to find new ways of expression apt to meet the aesthetic
exactingness of their contemporaries, Rumanian painters are sensitive
to the major problems of socialist society and its humanitarian ideals
as they are to the poetry of Nature and everyday life, which are reflected
in their pictures.
Putting together works by artists of long-standing experience and
by young talents just making their "public début," the well over hundred
reproductions give a conclusive picture of the productions of painters
in Rumania today.
