Sansone e Dalila

Bulino, 1560 circa, sullo scudo "Martin / heems / kerck / ' inven" e "Philippus gallus fecit H. Theodr Galle excudit". Numerato sotto "5". Esemplare di secondo stato con l'indirizzo dell'editore Hieronumus Cock sostituito da quello di Theodr Galle. Da un soggetto inventato da Maerten van Heemskerck, inciso da Philips Galle. Dalla serie "La storia di Sansone”, composta da sei tavole circolari (cfr. New Hollstein, 85-90). L’episodio raffigurato è narrato nell’Antico Testamento: Sansone è sdraiato in grembo a Dalila che gli porge una ciocca di capelli; un'altra figura è inginocchiata accanto a lui con delle forbici; un gruppo di soldati è in piedi a sinistra. Maarten Van Heemskerck (1498 - 1574), pittore e disegnatore, si formò ad Haarlem sotto Jan van Scorel e lavorò ad Haarlem e in Italia. Fu un prolifico disegnatore di composizioni per stampe, quasi tutte fatte da altri. Gli artisti che incisero dai suoi disegni sono Dirk Coornhert (1547-59 circa), Philips Galle (dal 1559), Cornelis Bos e Theodoor de Bry. Bellissima prova, ricca di toni, impressa su carta vergata coeva, rifilata al rame, in ottimo stato di conservazione.
