Description
London, Trübner & Co. (for the Geological Magazine), 1879. 8vo (22.0 x 14.0 cm). 34 pp. [8;4;8;14]; four lithographed plates [1;1;1;1], of which two double-sized. Contemporary pebbled half calf over pebbled boards. Spine with gilt bands and title (of the Journal). An important work on the marine Neogene molluscs of Sumatra (Indonesia) by the British malacologist Henry Woodward (1832-1921). Many of the well-preserved and well-illustrated specimens represent species described as new by Woodward, and still valid today. The paper, in four parts, was "published with the authority and assistance of the Dutch-Indian Government". This is the complete issue of the Geological Magazine for 1879, with many other palaeontological contributions. Boards and spine rubbed; stamps on title and plate versos (not shining through), otherwise very good. Rare.
