Description

Oblong 4to., First Edition, with 16 plates, numerous illustrations in the text, front inner wrapper map and large folding coloured map at rear, some pages very lightly browning as often; original pictorial wrappers, wire-stitched as issued, covers lightly rubbed at extremities else a very good, bright, crisp copy. Deceptively detailed booklet providing the official context of the immediate post-war occupation of Germany, in which 30 Corps was awarded a prominent role. As a unit 30 Corps requires no introduction here. Led by Horrocks for most of its life, it rapidly became one of the most renowned fighting units of the British Army in WWII: 'in three years' hard fighting in eight countries neither the Corps nor any of the formations under its command have been defeated in battle or forced to yield any captured objective'. From Alamein to Arnhem and beyond, the 'Wild Boar' was never far from the thick of it.
