Original blue boards with printed label on the spine. = Early work on the well-preserved fossil fish from a locality famous for the discovery of Archaeopteryx, the predicted, so-called "missing link" between reptiles and birds. Written by the Dutch herpetologist, ichthyologist, palaeontologist and Darwinist, Tiberius Cornelius Winkler (1822-1897). Published in the Maatschappij's Natuurkundige verhandelingen, and preceded by a paper by Oswald Heer, on fossil beetles, titled: Beiträge zur Insektenfauna Oeningens. Coleoptera. Geodephagen, Hydrocanthariden, Gyriniden, Brachelytren, Clavicornen, Lamellicornen und Buprestiden (90 pp.; seven lithographed plates, of which four tinted). Spine cover partly split, small damp stain in the lower margin of a few leaves; some light, mostly marginal spotting; otherwise very good, clean, unmarked. Cat.
