Il tema dell'avidità umana, sempre tesa al guadagno e al denaro, ricorre frequentemente nelle stampe popolari francesi e italiane sin dalla fine del secolo XVIII con l'immagine del diavolo alato che dispensa monete a pioggia su un campionario di personaggi che vanno dal banchiere all'avvocato, dall'oste alla 'fille de joie' e al mercante, mentre niente ottengono gli onesti pur sforzandosi di trattenerlo per la lunga coda, e la virtù giace a terra sopraffatta dal vizio. A destra, tuttavia, la morte attende tutti per dispensare la giustizia eterna. Di notevole interesse per la materia economica trattata.
