Boston, MA, Boston Society of Natural History, 1903. Large 4to (30.5 x 24.5 cm). 53 pp., 22 text illustrations, six plates of which five in chromolithography. Original printed front wrapper. = The first, detailed study of the anatomy - in particular the skeleton - of the common mudpuppy, a North-American salamander. "They live an entirely aquatic lifestyle in the eastern part of North America in lakes, rivers, and ponds. They go through paedomorphosis and retain their external gills, thus resembling axolotls" (Wikipedia). Published in the Society's Memoirs. Uncut. Wrapper detached with edges chipped, as nearly always due to the low grade wrapper paper; rear wrapper lacking. Otherwise a very good, complete and unmarked copy.
