Description

8vo and postcard format. Together 5 pp. The letter from 1888 is addressed to a friend and collaborator named M. Brilot (or Bricot?), thanking him for "programmes from Monaco" and discussing various matters, including Pfeiffer's 1884 opera "L'Enclume" and the wedding of his daughter, at which a mutual friend named Alfred had delivered a brilliant performance. - The later letter to a close friend contains a charming anecdote from a salon, involving a mutual acquaintance called Brahms, though certainly not the composer: "Brahms, qui vous a l'autre jour si fort ennuyé (et moi aussi !) a pourtant fait de belles choses : un jour sortant d'une petite soirée où il avait été insupportable comme d'habitude, il rentre et dit : Y aurait-il quelqu'un à qui j'avais oublié d'être désagréable ?". - The letter from 1904 with printed letterhead. Insignificantly stained.
