(wiki) // Vorworte: Band 1: This is the first atlas of a series to cover all British Rail lines, and is based on information kindly supplied by B.R. and added to by the publisher from various sources. B.R. records on track and infrastructure vary considerably between Regions in the amount of detail given; that for Scotland is often lacking for the larger yards and depots, although much extra data has been added by the cartographer from personal observation. Mileages often vary slightly between different official records, but, in general, those given in the latest Sectional Appendix have been used. The help given by Brian Philp and his friends in Edinburgh and by Gerald Jacobs is gratefully acknowledged. / Band 2: This is the second atlas of a series to cover all British Rail lines, and includes the Tyne & Wear PTE Metro lines. It is up-to-date to 31st January 1988, with some later amendments, particularly in the Anglia Region; electrification is to May 1988. Mileages often vary slightly between different official records, but, in general, those given in the latest Sectional Appendix have been used. Station mileages are taken from the mid-point of the platforms, or, in the case of a terminus, the buffer stops. Tyne and Wear PTE distances are in kilometres. These diagrams have been compiled substantially from information supplied by British Rail and Tyne and Wear PTE, supplemented by other data and amended from observations. In some cases distinctions between BR ownership and other parties are not shown and no inferences concerning ownership should therefore be drawn. The boundaries between the Eastern and Anglia Regions, which start on 1st April 1988, were not confirmed when going to press. The assistance of numerous BR officials, Mr J A Baggs, General Manager (Metro), Tyne & Wear, Peter Staveley and Peter Kay, who gave much help with signal boxes, is gratefully acknowledged. � // Band 3: This is the third atlas of a series to cover all British Rail lines and includes a number of private railways. It is, in general, up-to-date to 1st March 1989, with some later changes, particularly at Bristol St. Philip's Marsh. Mileages often vary slightly between different official records, but, in general, those given in the latest Sectional Appendix have been used; this also applies to the Dawlish tunnels where lengths are different from those in all other sources. Station mileages are taken from the mid-point of the platforms, or, in the case of a terminus, the buffer stops. These diagrams have been compiled substantially from information supplied from various British Rail sources, supplemented by other data and amended from observations. In some cases distinctions between BR ownership and other parties are not shown and no inferences concerning ownership should therefore be drawn.
