Albany, NY, [New York State], 1854. 4to (29.0 x 23.0 cm). viii, 272 pp., 50 lithographed plates of which 47 hand-coloured. Publisher's blind-tooled cloth with gilt vignette on the front board and gilt title on the spine. = This is part V of the "Agriculture of New York" and it is the complete entomological section. The three plain plates depict anatomical details, the remainder mostly colourful Coleoptera and Lepidoptera, but also Odonata, etc. The descriptions are detailed and include notes on their larvae, distribution, fodder plants and economical importance. A few text page sections age-toned. Otherwise generally clean, except for the explanatory leaves which are toned, and one plate with some offsetting, one largely toned. All other plates - including all those with diurnal butterflies clean. Greek stamps on title. Spine cover mostly perished, nevertheless, a much better than average copy. Horn-Schenkling, 5979.
