Paris, Ambroise Lefèvre, [N.D, but ca. 1875]. Folio (36.2 x 27.5 cm). 82 photo-lithographed plates with explanatory captions. Original portfolio with gilt title on the spine, and marbled boards with printed front cover mounted. = New (unrecorded?) edition, on a larger format, of the atlas of on mammal bones, human skulls and stone age artefacts of the Parisian basin. Mostly Early Holocene, but apparently including (Late) Pleistocene faunas too. The first edition was published by the Imprimerie Nationale in Paris in 1869, with smaller margins (page size 33.6 x 23.8). The plates of this new edition have been partly re-edited (e.g., those that had a grey background have a white background here), and renumbered, and a few less informative plates were deleted. The original number of plates was 87. This, however, is not a part of the second edition of Belgrand's work, because that edition (published in 1883) only had 45 plates. Stamp on front board erased, paper label a bit chipped at the edges. Plates fine, clean. A very good copy. Cat. BM(NH) p. 128 [1869 ed. only]. Not in Nissen ZBI.
