Description
Charles Farrar Browne (1834-1867), noto con lo pseudonimo Artemus Ward, è da considerarsi il primo "stand-up comedian" americano, un comico cioè che si esibisce "in piedi" davanti a un pubblico rivolgendosi direttamente a esso. La sua carriera ebbe inizio con alcuni contributi per alcuni quotidiani e settimanali locali, e nel 1858 pubblicò "The plain dealer", il primo libro della sua fortunatissima serie "Artemus Ward", tanto apprezzata perfino dal Presidente degli Stati Uniti Abraham Lincoln.
Prima edizione della serie Artemus Ward His Travels, che si articola in due parti: Miscellaneous e Among the Mormons. Non comune. Sabin 8645.
