4to. 1 p. On National Gallery stationery. To Sir George Scharf (1820-95), director of the National Portrait Gallery, thanking him for a letter "which I have shown to Sir Frederick Burton, who requests me to thank you for the interesting information contained in it". He also notes that he will remember the matter of "the biographical sketch of C. R. Leslie" for "the next edition of our 'British School' catalogue". - After serving as secretary of the Royal Institute of British Architects (1866-77), C. L. Eastlake became keeper and secretary of the National Gallery (1878-98). - Browning, minor stains, traces of folds.
