Description

8vo. 1 p. on bifolium. To the French jurist and "conseiller d'État" Alfred Blanche (1816-93), confirming a meeting: "J'ai l'honneur de vous accuser reception de votre note de hier. Nous vous entendrons dans le café de Peters a côté de la porte du Vaudeville [.]". - In 1869 Wilhelm Heine was the newly appointed military attaché at the American Legation in Paris. In 1861, after the beginning of the American Civil War, the Forty-Eighter had returned to the US to serve in the Union Army. In 1871 Heine retired from his post in Paris and returned to his native town Dresden. There he wrote a final book on Japan which he had visited 1853/54 as part of the Perry Expedition and 1860 with the Prussian Eulenberg Expedition. - On stationery with lithographed letterhead of the American Legation in Paris.
