Humorous letter to the pianist and educator Pierre Zimmermann, explaining that he had received Zimmermann's commission but was unable to return his manuscripts, as he forgot the keys to his Paris apartment when he wanted to pick them up. Halévy promises to try again the following day even though he has not "the time, nor the means, nor the inclination" to look at them and, in closing, rightfully apologizes for his "devilish" handwriting: "excusez moi mon cher Zimmermann. Juste [?] m’avait bien transmis votre commission. Je suis venu a Paris Samedi dernier, mais j’en fait la bêtise d’oublier la clé de mon appartement et je suis resté à ma porte. Depuis, ma femme a été très-souffrante, et je suis resté à St. Germain je voulais vous écrire, je l’aurais dû, mais le temps passe ici aussi vite qu’à Paris. J’irai demain, oui j'irai demain, et vous ferai remettre vos manuscrits, que je n’ai pas eu encore le temps, ni le moyen, ni le plaisir de regarder, puisqu’ils sont à Paris, et moi à St. Germain.
