To the academic painter and art critic Charles-Olivier Merson, informing him that his painting "Boeufs à la porte d'une auberge" has been sent to Toulouse and is therefore not available for an exhibition, probably the Exposition de Bordeaux: "Pendant que vous m'écriviez votre lettre si cordiale des 'bœufs à la porte d'une auberge' j'en allaient chez Toussaint à destination de Toulouse. Vous voyez que je n'avais pas oublié ma promesse. Je ne regrette qu'une chose c'est que l'œuvre ne soit pas plus importante mais puisque vous portez un intérêt aussi vif à Toulouse je m'arrangerai pour envoyer mieux l'an prochain". - Well preserved.
