Description
Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page. Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Sehr gerne komme ich Ihrem Wunsche entgegen und sende Ihnen hierbei das Erwünschste [!] […]". - Best known for his views of Norwegian fjords, Dahl excelled at painting waters in movement, enlivening his landscapes with genre scenes evoking Norwegian national Romanticism, a style that was heavily criticized for not complying with up-and-coming Modernism around 1880. - Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
