Description
Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page. Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Ihrem Wunsche willfahrend [.]". - One of Germany's foremost historical painters, Knötel specialized in military themes and created illustrations for several magazines as well as for military books. The "Uniformenkunde", a huge collection of plates exhibiting the military attire of European armies from the 17th century to 1914, constitutes his chief work. - A few tiny ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
