The upper part shows Zeus hurling the thunderbolt to punish Phaeton, in the center the chariot with the four horses that are stumbling lost in the air, and Phaeton about to fall. At the bottom there are two women, the Eliad sisters, who noticing the boy's fall are in despair looking up at the sky, and a male figure lying down, this is the river deity Eridanus (the Po river), into which Phaeton is about to fall.
