Beautifully produced collection of fascinating photographs of a Middle-eastern trip taken in 1862 by the Prince of Wales (future Edward VII) accompanied by photographer Francis Bedford. The text is excellent covering the political and economic states of the areas covered by these fascinating photographs, along with the British intentions and the incipient demise of the Ottoman Empire Sophie Gordon is senior curator of photographs in the Royal Collection and has published widely on nineteenth- and early twentieth-century photography.
