Contributions from the Chemical Laboratory of the Rose Polytechnic Institute. Il Noyes (in una fattoria presso Independence, Iowa, 1857-1941) fu tra i massini chimici americani del suo tempo, pioniere nella determinazione dei pesi atomici, professore all'Università dell'Illinois dal 1907 al 1926, fondatore e direttore di numerosi periodici chimici e vincitore nel 1935 del massimo premio della American Chemical Society, la medaglia Priestley.
