cloth. large 8vo, x-288pp. A fine copy. Chau Ju-Kua is among the most prominent writer on ethnography and trade of medieval China. His notes on Arab or Persian merchants, compete and complete those of Marco Polo and other early Arab and Christian travelers. Descriptions of the Muslim settlement in Canton in the ninth century, where the Chinese appointed a Muslim to maintain order among his coreligionists and administer the law of Islam. The book is divided into two parts, the first lists the places from which material and goods used to be imported or exported to ( trade between Arab land and China, including Iraq, Baghdad and Basra, Mekkah, Somalia, Egypt, and Yemen. The second part lists the goods and materials that were exchanged.
