In modern pistachio green full leather bdg. Title and author's lettered gilt on spine and front board. Four raised bands to spine. Large 8vo. (24 x 14 cm). In German and Ottoman script (Old Turkish with Arabic letters). [iv], [1], [xxxviii], [2], 163, [1] p., one folded grammatic table, corrections. Age toned and heavily stains on pages, otherwise a good / fair copy. First edition of this rare chrestomathy book for the French orientalists in 19th century, written by Dieterici who was a German orientalist, as language study aids including an early collection of selected literary passages from Ottoman Turkish to French language. The book includes Eloge de fou Mahmoud Pasha [i.e. Praise of the late Mahmoud Pasha], collections of the folk tales (including 15 tales), and the narrations from Nasreddin Hodja in original Ottoman script with their translations into French (pp. 1-85), and glossary pages (pp. 87-159), appendix and corrections.
