With an additional loose plate in volume 3: an improved version of pl. 59. Contemporary three-quarter red morocco gilt, marbled endleaves (R.H. Porter). Armorial bookplates of John Cavendish Orred of Tranmore and of the British Ornithologists' Union (Lewis Balfour Bequest). First edition of “perhaps the finest and most perfect ornithological iconography” (Nissen). The work was issued in 36 parts to subscribers between October 1885 and January 1898.
