Black buckram with gilt title on the spine. = The Contributions to Conchology were a series of papers written by the American malacologist George Washington Tryon (1838-1888). They should not be confused with an earlier, identically titled series by the American malacologist C. B. Adams. This third volume, dedicated to William Gabb, contains six small to medium-sized papers (including: A sketch of the history of conchology in the United States (pp. 13-32); and Synopsis of the Recent species of Gastrochaenidae, a family of acephalous Mollusca (pp. 33-62), and one large monograph, with a supplement (pp. 63-126; 9-12. All were published earlier in various scientific periodicals. Provenance: stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the second blank and title page. A very good copy.
