This is a very good hardcover copy in a very good dustjacket with just light wear. Completely clean inside and out. Beautifully reprinted classic of French garden design, from the late 18th century. Prince Charles Joseph de Ligne was the owner of the moated castle and surrounding gardens located in Beloeil near Mons in Belgium on the border with France. The property has been in his family's possession since the 11th century.The first edition of this work was published in 1786, the second in 1795. Basil Guy translated and edited this printing, and has a long essay on the Prince and the famous gardens at Coup d'Oeil. Illustrated in black & white, and occasionally green inks on fine paper.158 illustrations. Bibliography. 11" high X 9" wide, 295 pages. Large heavy book, foreign shipping will be extra.
