Description

Leiden, Hazenberg en Comp., 1843. iv, 663 pp.; four lithographed plates, of which one hand-coloured, depicting a Dyak called Sigan as a warrior, with his shield, spear, and feathers. The others depict landscapes and Dyak writing. Original pictorial paper boards. = Most contributions are by the famous Dutch botanist Carl Blume (1796-1862), the first long-time director of the Leiden Rijksherbarium and the author of Flora Javae and Rumphia. Here Blume relates more to the anthropology, history, and culture on Java and Borneo. Other articles are by C. Praetorius. Included is a 31 pp. list of the most important types of wood around Palembang (Sumatra), with the local name of the tree species, their shape, height, thickness, habitat, and possible use. A few small pieces of the paper spine lost, but not problematic. One uncoloured plate with a damp-stain marking along the centre of the plate, the other two uncoloured plates slightly effected by damp, but not stained. The coloured frontispiece in good condition. Not in the BM(NH) Periodicals Catalogue.
