Paris, Treuttel et Würtz, 1818. Four parts in two. 8vo (19.9 x 12.3 cm). 652 pp. [viii, 386; 248]; 115 [57; 58] engraved, numbered plates and one large, folded, engraved map of Paris. Near contemporary quarter calf over tree-calf-resembing paper boards. Spines with gilt ornamental bands and two green morocco labels, of which the lower one with blind-rolled borders. Marbled endpapers. = Very rare true second, enlarged, edition, with a large, folded map of Paris and 115 plates The first edition, which is fairly common, has only 98 plates. A 1842 edition sometimes called second edition is merely a reprint of this edition. Provenance: on the front pastedown a mineralogical bookplate of the French mineralogist and professor at the École des Mines, Claude Jean Guy Guillemin (1923-1994), who was a co-founder of the International Mineralogical Association. One spine foot (lowest 8 millimeters) repaired; otherwise very good, clean.
