Description

Paris, Savy et Dunod, 1868. 8vo (21.5 x 14.3 cm). xvi, 553 pp. Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Spine with gilt lines and title. = The last part contains the "Memoire sur les substances minérales dites en masse, qui entrent dans la composition des roches volcaniques de tous les âges" by P. Cordier (1815) and a large table alphabétique. Interesting collection and classification of an unpublished manuscript of Pierre-Louis Cordier's (1777-1861) lectures in the Natural History Museum in Paris to whom Charles d'Orbigny was an assistent during 28 years. Cordier was the first to use polarising microscopes in mineralogy. Bound in the rear: four small 8vo publisher's catalogues of four pages each, containing new publication on zoology, and geology. Vague library stamp on title, some light foxing, damp-stain to the lower outer corner of the first leaves, otherwise a very good copy. Cat. BM(NH) p.1,473.
