Description

Weimar, Bernhard Friedrich Voigt, 1839. Small 8vo (18.0 x 11.1 cm). xiv, 102, [iv] pp. Original printed wrappers. = Rare monograph on the genus Dahlia and its cultivation, based on an English work, A practical treatise on the cultivation of the Dahlia, by the horticulturist and landscape gardener Joseph Paxton (1803-1865) published a year earlier, but enlarged and updated, with the inclusion of additional letters on this subject by Alexander von Humboldt and Antoine Laurent de Jussieu (1748-1836). Do not confuse with Neumann's later Die Cultur der Georginen in Deutschland (1841). Uncut. In the rear a 4-page publisher's catalogue. Peculiar rectangular embossed bookplate on title; stamp of the Fürstenberg library on the title and the last text page lower margin. A very good copy. Neither in Stafleu and Cowan, nor in Cat. BM(NH). OCLC has only one, questionable, record, viz., in the Sa¨chsische Landesbibliothek, Staats- und Universita¨tsbibliothek Dresden.
