Later grey buckram with gilt title on the spine and original front wrapper mounted on the front board. Speckled edges. = A rarely seen monograph of Atlantic policistines (Radiolaria). With excellent illustrations. Part of the Ergebnisse der in dem Atlantischen Ocean von Mitte Juli bis anfang November 1889 ausgeführten Plankton-Expedition der Humboldt-Stiftung (Band III, part L. e.). Written by the German zoologist and student of Ernst Haeckel, Friedrich Dreyer (1866- [after] 1913?). One source gives his year of death as 1903, with a query. This, however, seems unlikely, as this volume dates from ten years later and without any indication that the author had died. Provenance: pictorial bookplate of the Bibliotheca Universitatis Sancti Andreae on the front pastedown of the first volume, with cancellation stamp of the same library, and a small vague stamp of its marine laboratory on the front wrapper and in the top margin of the first text page. Otherwise a very good, clean set.
