Description

Genève, H. Georg, 1873. Large 4to (29.5 x 23.5 cm). Three title pages, 398 pp.; 33 fine, lithographed plates. Early 20th-century red cloth with gilt title on spine. Marbled flyleaves. = A major monograph with detailed descriptions and fine illustrations of new and little known species, many described by Agassiz, Desor, and De Loriol himself. This forms the sixth series of Pictet's Matériaux pour la paléontologie Suisse, a major publication on the fossil of the Alps, but is a complete work on its own, hence the different title pages. Nissen does not list in under De Loriol, nor, explicitly, under Pictet. Small old owner's stamp on front flyleaf verso, text leaves mildly age-toned; a few very light, small spots to some plates (mostly marginal), otherwise a very good, clean copy. Nissen ZBI, 3173.
