About The Book: Looking at culture through the lens of gender is of recent inclusion though there are burgeoning researches and oeuvre of literature on the cultures of north–east of India. This book analyses the Tangkhul culture through the prism of gender. A comprehensive account on gender enculturation is presented in this book taking note of the pervasive values that are streamlined for each gender in the cultural milieu. This is an exploration on the roots of how gender is tailored to children, laying the foundation from the concept of sex prediction of an unborn child till adolescent stage. The whole process of gendered enculturation by adults through verbal and non-verbal means and the ways of internalizing the values by children is summarized in the book. The transition from oral tradition of socialization to the contemporary situation is also presented in the book with analysis on the replication of gender values.
