Heidelberg, Joseph Engelmann, 1833. 8vo (21.0 x 13.3 cm). xvi, 398 [ii], 8 pp.; nine folded engraved plates on five sheets. Contemporary marbled boards. Blind-ruled spine with gilt ornamental bands and black morocco label with gilt title. Speckled edges. = This forms a rare part of the Naturgeschichte des Mineralreichs, being the first part, although it was also sold separately, hence the presence of two titles, viz. one for the series and one for the work. Second edition (first: 1825), with prefaces to both editions. The 'Oryktognosie' is much rarer than the author's Grundzüge der Geognosie und Geologie. The plates show crystal-forms. Karl Cäsar Ritter Von Leonhard (1779-1862) was professor of mineralogy at the Heidelberg University. Two and eight pp. catalogues of Engelmann bound in the rear. Old stamp and hand-written name of the same former private owner on the title page, scattered light spotting, otherwise a very good, clean copy.
