Original red marbled boards with printed paper label on the spine. = A single volume, part of one of the best illustrated and most scientifically important editions (because of its many new discoveries, including descriptions of new species) of the famous "Comte de Buffon" natural history series. This (17th) volume being the only one in the series dealing with zoology in general. Here, Sonnini put much emphasis on the difference between plants and animals, and on reproduction and early ontogeny. Therefore, the seven plates are mostly microscopical. Uncut. Boards a bit worn, mostly at the joints, and with some damage to the spine foot; otherwise an excellent, clean and unmarked copy. BM(NH) Cat. p. 281; Brunet, 1377.
