Description
Alberto Bergamini, senatore del Regno e giornalista noto, offre nella sua opera una testimonianza diretta e riflessioni critiche sul re, basandosi anche su incontri personali, inclusa una visita nel 1945 a Vittorio Emanuele III che aveva sulla scrivania un diario o memoriale segreto, in cui il re stesso forniva una sorta di autodifesa rispetto alle accuse storiche. Il testo di Bergamini è considerato prezioso perché contiene giudizi e racconti originali raccolti all'epoca, permettendo una visione più vicina alle intenzioni e al pensiero del sovrano, anche se Vittorio Emanuele III negava formalmente di aver scritto memorie ufficiali.
