Description
Scarce copy of the first edition. Our copy is complete with its errata, printed on the verso of the colophon. Born in Rimini, Giovanni Augurelli (circa 1454-1524) was a talented alchemist and poet. It is to him, it is said, that Pope Leo X offer, in return for the dedication of his poem "De Chrysopoeia" a large empty purse, so that he could contain the gold that he knew how to create ! The "Chrysopœia"presents an alchemical interpretation of Greco-Latin mythology. Rubbed binding with small lack on the spine, covers restored in the 19th century, very nice interior freshness otherwise. Ferguson, I, 56 ; STC Italian, I, 61
