Description

Paperback. Cr. 8vo. (20 x 14 cm). In Turkish. 63, [1] p. A study on Georgians of Istanbul. Istanbul Gürcüleri. Translated by Fahrettin Çiloglu. While Istanbul Gürcüleri ("The Georgians of Istanbul") primarily describes the Catholic Georgians who were forced to migrate from the Mesheti region of Georgia after the 1828-1829 Ottoman-Russian War and settled in Istanbul, it also provides information about the Georgian colony in Istanbul dating back to the Byzantine period, as well as about Muslim Georgians who migrated after the 1877-78 Ottoman-Russian War and settled in the Marmara Region. In the introduction to the book, the author states that he gathered documents related to Georgians in the Ottoman Empire and made use of them while writing the work. Istanbul Gürcüleri remains a valuable source on the Georgians who settled in the city of Istanbul and the Marmara Region.
