Description
First edition, First issue, with rhyme chapter headings for Chapters VIII and XIII only. A copy with pleasing provenance, the Shattuck copy, from the important Boston family. Illustrated with 10 plates in black and white on coated paper. 8vo, ‘Kipling’ dark green cloth with lettering and pictorial decorations of the famous sailing ship in gilt and black on the upper cover and spine, t.e.g. (4), 460 pp. A good copy with some typical wear from age and use, the text-block clean and well preserved, the binding with some light wear at the extremities, some minor evidence of old damp to the outer edge of the upper cover, rear hinge lightly shaken.
