FIRST EDITION of this well-known novel. 8, 537 pp. Edition limited to 500 numbered copies with AN ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT LEAF bound in before the half-title. This particular leaf is fascinating: half of it appears in the published edition (the last few lines of p. 53 and the first half of p. 54) and the other half features a long paragraph crossed out by the author and never published: it is entirely legible. 8vo. Beautifully bound in three-quarters morocco and marbled boards. Original wraps and backstrip preserved. Textblock slightly toned, but paper still supple. Manuscript leaf fine and bright. Almost perfect condition.
