RARE LIMITED EDITION of 267 COPIES. This is COPY No.85 (Deux Cents Exemplaires sur Vergé Ingres du Marais, numérotés 68 a 267). This edition of Denis Diderot's satirical allegory "The White Bird: A Blue Story" is beautifully illustrated by an eminent French female painter and graphic artist Paulette Humbert (1904-1994), renowned for her outstanding illustrations of French literature and poetry, such as Chateaubriand's "Rene", Alphonse de Lamartine's "Raphaël", Théophile Gautier's "Émaux et Camées", Roland Dorgelès's "Le Réveil des morts", Fromentin's "Dominique", Alphonse de Chateaubriant's "La Briere", Poil de Carotte de Jules Renard, Dominique d'Eugène Fromentin, Pierre de Ronsard's "Les Amours", Georges Duhamel's "Vie et aventures de Salavin", and numerous others. Most illustrations are in color, few are b&w. 245x165mm. 164 pages (unbound as published). White embossed Softcover with board folder laid in plain board slipcase (slipcase size: 255x175mm). Slipcase yellowing and stained/age-stained. Slipcase wrinkled. Slipcase edges worn. Folder and folder spine yellowing and dirty/slightly stained. Page 15/16 bottom edge slightly torn (15mm) - NO damage to text. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare and splendidly illustrated edition of satire by the great 18th-century French philosopher, art critic and writer, is overall in good condition.
