Description
One of a total of four verifiable editions of the Ragionamenti of Pietro Aretino (1492-1556) with the fictitious printing site "Bengodi", a fictional place mentioned in Boccaccio's Decamerone: "Maso rispose che le più si trovavano in Berlinzone, terra de' Baschi, in una contrada che si chiamava Bengodi, nella quale si legano le vigne con le salsicce" (Boccaccio, Decamerone, VIII, 3). While the STC states the place of printing "Bengodi" for the first edition without comment, further prints were allegedly made in London in 1595 and in Amsterdam around 1620. Gamba does not resolve the fake print location issue neither. Title up to page 51 on the upper inner bridge (without loss of text), paper slightly stained and browned. Continuous underlining in the prima giornata of the second part. Rare.
Bibliography: IA 107.119 ("At least 4 different editions"). STC 518 . Gamba 1201 (three prints). EDIT 16 CNCE 2482. Adams A 1581. Apollinaire, VIII, B. STC 518. Brunet I, 411. Ebert 967/2. Gamba, 1201. Gay-Lemonnyer III, 927. Graesse I, 190, β.
