A LARGE-PAPER COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION OF THIS IMPORTANT MEMOIR, with considerable material about Proust and Proust's world. XI, 348. Astruc (1864-1938), the son of the Grand Rabbi of Belgium, was a journalist, impressario, and playwright. He knew Eric Satie, Mata Hari, Arthur Rubinstein, Enrico Caruso, Richard Strauss, Toscanini and other stars of the Belle Epoque. Later on, he became close friends with Marcel Proust (1871-1922), who encouraged him to write this memoir. ONE OF ONLY 15 NUMBERED LARGE-PAPER COPIES PRINTED ON FINE ARCHES WOVE PAPER. 8vo. Attractively bound in three-quarters morocco by R. Bracke of Brussels (with his ticket). Original wraps and backstrip preserved. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. FINE AND BRIGHT.
