De Catalde, published in 1737, provides a strong statement about the potential discrepancy between rank and character by presenting the story of a socially displaced nobleman. Catalde's protagonist is a Dutch peasant who discovers that his family is of noble extraction and decides to pursue the education and lifestyle of "un homme de qualité".In spite of hos nobility, Ransav confronts the social prejudice ."
